The Conspiracy Of Our Thoughts

With so much talk of “leakers” and conspiracy in the news I wonder if we stop to think about the daily battle we wage in our own personal life filled with “leaks” and “conspiracy.” Politicians and people who heavily follow politics have the uncanny ability to ignore any truth, any redeeming quality people on the other side of the isle have. To demonize another human being as though we ourselves or the other humans we hold in high esteem are perfect is a huge mistake. All people are flawed and left to our own human natures; we are selfish and corrupt beings.

We desire to choose sides and fight tooth and nail for what we believe because God created us to be that way. However, He did not create us to choose human sides. He did not create us to follow people blindly where they lead. He created us to choose Him and to follow Him.

The battle we fight is with our thoughts and our feelings. Our thoughts determine what we believe. They are what direct our actions and drive our feelings. There is a war that goes on for our hearts every day. The enemy of our souls and our flesh conspire to chip away at our identity, our security and our peace. Like a hammer hitting a rock it strikes over and over again until the rock shatters, broken beyond repair. So many people are broken, and it is just so very heartbreaking.

We become broken when we begin to see pain as more powerful than promises. Not the promises of people, but the promises of God. People will let us down, but when we have a real relationship with God. When we understand His love, His heart and His characteristics we realize His promises are always true.

Our battle is not with people, it is with the conspiracy of the enemy of our souls, and our very own flesh. Together, they whisper in our ears, “You are not enough” and many other vile things. If people we knew talked to us the way we talk to ourselves we would drop them like a rock. We would cut them off in the middle of their “speech.” We would dismiss, ignore and completely turn off what they say. We would not give them any weight or believe them for a second. We would put up our hand and say, “Bye Felisha” and not look back. We may even actively work against them to silence their voices.

The world tells us there is corruption, conspiracy and hate around every corner. That is because it is what our flesh wants us to see. Our flesh wants to drive us deep into a pit of self-protection, isolation, anger and frustration. We cut people out of our lives as though they are the problem and issue, but we never look to the voice within that continually works to diminish our value, taking away our joy and our peace. Most of us are fighting the wrong enemies. They surround us day and night...especially at night...when things get quiet and we are alone with ourselves.

God is not going to coddle us and take them away for us; that would leave us weak and vulnerable. God is not an enabler; He is an abler! He works with us, guides us with wisdom and advice so we can succeed. He is not a dictator, He is a mentor that gives us what we need to love, work or fight. Whatever the circumstance. The choices are ours and our choices are always between bad, good or best. Unsuccessful people consistently make bad choices. Average people consistently make good choices. Successful people consistently make the best choices. Bad choices are usually easy in the short term with bad consequences. Good choices are more difficult in the short term but have good results. The best choices are difficult in the short term but in the long run they add up to excellent results. God is there to help us get through the best and wise choices. He won’t make them for us, but we never have to do them alone.

“I call on you, God, because you will answer me; listen closely to me; hear what I say. Display the wonders of your faithful love, Savior of all who seek refuge from those who rebel against your right hand. Protect me as the pupil of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings from the wicked who treat me violently, my deadly enemies who surround me. They are uncaring; their mouths speak arrogantly. They advance against me; now they surround me. They are determined to throw me to the ground. They are like a lion eager to tear, like a young lion lurking in ambush.” Psalms 17:6-12 CSB

That title though! I’ll be ruminating on that all day. And maybe even for days to come. I love how you tied together the attack of the enemy (and our own flesh) as a conspiracy to destroy us and juxtaposed it with our human tendency to attack people rather than oppose our REAL enemy: the devil. Bravo Sherri. I’m impressed and exited you’ve started this blog!
