"Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding." Isaiah 40:28 NLT

If we want to soar beyond our human potential we must first agree that we need to change and know that change is not only possible, it is necessary. In order to change and reach our full potential, we must understand Who created us and why. If we don’t start there, nothing will really make sense and if it doesn’t make sense, it can’t take root and grow.

In order to know what something is, we have to understand its nature. In order to create pottery, we have to understand the characteristics and capacities of clay. This holds true for things that are not as “safe” as clay. There are some things we have to understand in order to survive in its presence. We have to understand the nature of the sea to sail, the nature of the wind to fly and the nature of animals to protect ourselves.

If we don’t act in line with the nature of a force that is more powerful than us, that force will destroy us. We will drown in the sea; crash the plane and we will be eaten by the lion. If we face any of these forces of nature and do what we want to, what comes natural or what comes easy, we will more than likely get hurt and possibly even die. Whose fault is it? The sea's? The wind's? The animal's?

We can react to these forces in healthy or unhealthy ways. We can stay away from them completely and develop a hate or fear of them. Or we can enter their presence, under their terms, understanding their nature and enjoy being there. Knowledge and healthy fear (respect) enables us to do more than we can do on our own.

So, the question is, "Who is God?” It is not a simple answer, it is a lifelong pursuit. It’s kind of like counting stars. You can try to count them all, but you will die before you get close to the end because there is no end.

God is an eternal being, beyond all time and space with knowledge and powers beyond our ability to comprehend. In this lifetime we will never have all of God’s knowledge and understanding. If we throw up our hands in defeat because we can’t know everything about Him, our lives will stagnate. We will never achieve all we can or reach the full potential of all He has for us. We have to learn and grow to really live out who we are created to be.

So we start with this, God is the creator of the universe, everything we can see or imagine. He created the laws of nature and everything in space. He created the earth, every molecule of air, every drop of water and every speck of dirt. He created every atom, every piece of DNA and every microbe. He created every living creature, from the microscopic to the gargantuan.

As limited and finite creatures, we can't fully comprehend an unlimited and infinite creator. But we can increase our capacity to understand more today than we knew yesterday. We intuitively know there is something greater than ourselves. We know there has to be a plan and purpose for everything and we spend our lives desperately trying to figure it all out. We know somehow this great plan and purpose is directly related to our happiness and our future.

Who do you believe God is? How do your actions reveal what you believe about God?
